Editor’s Notes

Greetings Dear Readers,

The September issue offers you poems of lullabies, harvests and outhouses and our final review of the year by Namitha Rathinappillai who gives us a close reading of Sennah Yee's How Do I Look (Metatron Press, 2017).

Thanks to all who've submitted and contributed reviews. We will revisit publishing reviews if and when our budget allows.

We're in the final stages of preparing for the 16th Annual John Newlove Poetry Award, which will take place on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 9 pm at the Ottawa International Writers Festival. You can find information on the calendar. It's a free event featuring the music of Jack Pine, the launch of Death is a White Balloon by Tomas W. Wiszniewski, last year's recipient of the award, the announcement and readings by the winner and honourable mentions for 2019. We will celebrate and commemorate the poetry of John Newlove with readings of his poems, and we will raise a toast to the Bywords selection committee who takes the time to read and vote on between twenty and fifty poems each month. Come join us. And check out the full program of the Fall Edition of the Ottawa International Writers Festival. Buy tickets and memberships before they sell out.

Please also join me in welcoming to new selection committee members, Helen Robertson and Ashley Price.

Thanks to our selection committee this month:

Robert Martin Evans
Margo Lapierre
Kemisha Newman
Jade Riordan
JC Sulzenko
Rob Thomas
Ben Toner
