Five of Ottawa’s funniest poets will go poem-to-poem for five rounds to be crowned the NCC’s greatest buzzkill. Hosted by Bam Snack Shack, Chef Matt Atton has created five unique dishes inspired by each poet. This dinner-and-a-show event will be hosted by friend of the festival, Jennifer Baker. She will enforce the rules and run tie-breaking games. What are the rules? None of the five poets is allowed to laugh, crack a smile, break, or smirk during each other’s poems. The audience will join Jennifer in keeping an eye out for any infractions. Round by round, one poet will be eliminated until a winner is crowned. Taking place at the beautiful Happy Goat Laurel St. location, come enjoy an evening full of poems on the theme of "home and belonging". Hosted and curated by Noah Reinoso (@reinpress on instagram), he will read from his newest zine "Nesting" and introduce you to talented, primarily queer and trans BIPOC poets from around Ottawa. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. and the reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Seating is first-come, first-served. There will be chairs arranged to seat 30 people, with additional standing room for 20 people. Copies of the zine "Nesting", as well as some linocut prints + stickers by Noah will be available after the reading. This is a covid-conscious event and ticket-holders will be asked to wear a mask throughout the evening (masks will be provided for those without). Performing poets may choose to wear or not wear one while they read, but will be promptly worn post-set. Coat check will be available by donation (cash only). There are no stairs to enter the venue, but there is a small lip upon entering the space. Washrooms are gender neutral.
