Jamie Reid

Jamie Reid was one of the original editors of TISH, the germinal Vancouver poetry newsletter, along with current Canadian poet laureate George Bowering, Frank Davey, David Dawson, and Fred Wah. Amidst the usually friendly rivalries among the poets during the early 1960s in Vancouver, John and Jamie for a short time shared living quarters on Pender Street in West End Vancouver. In the middle sixties, they lived a block apart from each other on Yew Street, in the Kitsilano district, alongside many other Vancouver writers and artists of that time. A great deal of what Jamie knows today about history, poetry and politics came from their conversations together during those years. Jamie is the author of three volumes of poetry and a commercial biography of the Canadian jazz singer/pianist, Diana Krall. A volume of new and selected poems is scheduled to appear from Talonbooks this (2004) spring.
