A Play

Silence the gills that give forth unto the open lungs.
[Scene 1]
The woman is crying.
The man’s hands are shaking.
The lights have filled our lives with promise,
this cannot be our own undoing.
She slams the drawer shut and the man leaves the room.
What begins to seep through the breathing and breathing?
What takes hold and is gentle and lets the innocent continue?
[Scene 2]
It’s outside in some kind of this or that day.
Unmemorable but keeping the eyes centered.
Our ears and backs are focused.
The man is alone and looking out the window.
How far into the future does scene two begin?
A stranger approaches the bench below the window. She is wearing a grey hat.
She sits down and begins to speak.
Is she foreboding or judging?
[End Scene 2]
Scene 3 will not begin for some time.
A world has not yet been created.
The communication between scene One and Two is too porous
Stare. Stare.
Silent are the lungs moving gills underwater.
