Editor’s Notes

Greetings fall enthusiasts,

This month Bywords offers you three short poems from three voices you may not have heard. One of our goals is to uncover new and original poetic talent in our community. This month's poets fill the bill.

On October 4, 2006, we will realize those dreams once more at the John Newlove Poetry Award, Ottawa International Writers Festival, Fall Edition. You'll hear the poems of the four honourable mentions and the winner. We'll also be launching "Welcome to Beautiful San Ria," the chapbook of last year's winner, Melissa Upfold. And as an added treat, come out to hear the music of Andrea Simms-Karp, of the Vanity Press.

September is a special month for Bywords. Every year we take part in the annual AIDS Walk for Life. This year we've assembled a team of Ottawa Writers and Friends. If you'd like to sponsor us or join the team, here's the link. We're raising money for Bruce House, which offers care and support for those with AIDS/HIV.

The fall is a wonderful time for literary events in Ottawa. Take a look at the calendar and meet me there.

Thanks to this month’s selection committee:

Kelly Clarke, Jesse Ferguson, Megan McGrath, and Sarah Ruffolo.
