Whether the Weather Be Cold, Whether the Weather Be Hot, We'll Be Together Whatever the Weather Whether We Like It Or Not

Don’t ask me about the weather in this town;
I couldn’t explain it if I tried,
and, knowing you, you will make me try.

Let me preface any weather-talk
by saying that I am never dressed for the weather,
always finding myself wearing inappropriate shoes
or wondering how anyone can own enough shoes
to ever wear appropriate shoes,
so I am no expert in weather-talk… or shoe-talk.

Not that footwear was ever an issue to you;
you, prone to splashing in puddles
in flip-flops
to my dismay.

I always knew I loved you,
or that your childish characteristics would attract me
beyond my capability to withhold love,
if I even have any such capability.
On days like today, it certainly doesn’t seem so.

If you ever come back to visit,
I dread the inevitability
that you will ask me how to pack
according to the weather,
although I’m sure you already know
how to pack according to the weather.
Still, I am here
and you will be there
and for some reason that means I know the weather better.
I have never known better.

Before you, I knew nothing but worse;
I never owned an umbrella.
My feet still get wet, but after you has been much better.
I can’t blame you for not perfecting me,
not in such short amount of time.
