Abode

no one will find me here

in this small town 

on the Playa del Este

where roads empty themselves of purpose

and houses are tied to the ground by horses

where we surrender ourselves

to fumes of gasoline and urine

to sounds of radios and raised voices

roosters and random barking

 

despite the dust and decay

the unpainted entropy of every wall

there is a guava tree within reach of this balcony

and a mango tree with fruit ripening right now

a wind blowing in the aroma of rice and beans

and the sound of the breakers from the beach

 

palm fronds

lift in a beckoning gesture

while I sit here

on the hill above Guanabo

lost in a green canopy
