THIS TIME

living in purda

walled by the burka

willed to its purple fabric

she sees days as must be

meshed to a husband

permitted the eyes

no others now

can steal

yet

after moons

colored an existence

that had already absorbed

red from the blue planted black

she covered the world

with a face bare knowing

how eyes had seen hers

their green mesmer

sucking sightlines

locked on a purity

powering shy virtue

countenanced behind

the struggle to survive

that conflict of isms

lessoned perhaps

in her children
