grey November morning...
frost has sapped
plants’ vibrant green
leaving bleak beige stalks,
blanched their upright strength
to aqueous wan algae,
yet through a chain-link fence
wine-red, mixed-yellow,
deep and fairer pink
snapdragons strain towards the sun,
bloom, and prosper
