Editor’s Notes

Greetings Readers,

Today's issue brings us fast food and slow emotions, a recipe for love, car keys, and grace. I hope you enjoy the poems from these four talented writers. Two of our contributors are current residents, while the other two no longer live here. As long as contributors have lived worked or studied in Ottawa, they are eligible to have poetry published on the site. If you would like to send poems for consideration, please ensure that your cover letter includes your connection to Ottawa if you no longer live, work or study here. It's a good idea to consult the guidelines on the site to ensure your poems are eligible for submission. Don't forget that we publish poetry each month and that each poem published is considered for the John Newlove Poetry Award. In addition, if we publish your poem, you will receive an honorarium of $40. All fine reasons to have your poetry published on Bywords.ca. Send work by the 15th of each month. If you know of other eligible poets, please let them know about this opportunity.

I'd also like to invite those of you who are looking for an opportunity to participate in some literary outreach to consider applying to be a member of our selection committee. You must have an educational background in poetry or some publishing credentials. The dedicated selection committee reads between 30 and 60 poems monthly and chooses the poems without seeing the submitters' names or biographies. Feel free to send me an e-mail if you would like more information.

Thanks to our selection committee this month:

Wes Babcock
Robert Martin Evans
Jason Lamantia
Anne LeDressay
Fiona Mitchell
Kemisha Newman
Carol A. Stephen
JC Sulzenko
