exercises in art

that woman across the room again
across the god damned room again
just out of  a  r  m  s  reach
her face like an eskimo doll
with beautiful fish cheeks
perpetually pink and firm from cold

i try to place her beauty through art

draw pictures of every sex symbol
in the alphabet or phonebook
	and like christ
painted oily and ugly and purple
as an empty wineskin hung
up to dry on railroad ties

the metaphor is in part mine and its own
