Editor’s Notes

Greetings Readers,

The August issue of Bywords.ca contains poems by four poets plus a review by Jamie Bradley of rob mclennan's recent poetry collection Glengarry (Talonbooks, 2011).

Our reading in July at Collected Works was great fun with superb readers Steven Artelle, Allison Armstrong, L. Garrison, and Sean Moreland and the fine voice and ukulele of Brad Morden. Our next events will be the John Newlove Poetry Award Reading at the Ottawa International Writers Festival in October and then the launch of the autumn Bywords Quarterly Journal at Collected Works in November. Hope you can join us.

I am pleased to announce that the City of Ottawa has given us funding again this year. We appreciate the support given to us, and to Ottawa's arts and culture community.

For those of you at the cottage or on vacation this summer, don't forget you can get your monthly dose of poetry through bywords.ca or pick up a copy of the Bywords Quarterly Journal either at local stores, such as Mother Tongue Books, Mag's 'N Fags and Benjamin Books or at the Bywords.ca store.

And for those of you in town there are plenty of poetry and other literary events taking place in Ottawa this summer. Toward the end of the month we celebrate Capital Pride week with readings by storyteller Jan Andrews at the Dusty Owl Reading Series and participants in Venus Envy's Sixth Annual Read Out Loud event. Check the bywords.ca calendar for more information.

This month I'd like to welcome a new member of the Bywords selection committee, Pamela Mosher. Thanks to this month's selection committee:
