Yang Sheng Reprieve



The Yang Sheng wafts our culinary enticements

to the Friday night bustle

seeking a cheap meal to satisfy exotic appetite

Dragons dance in wooden serpentine

To chopstick percussion and slurping gullet counterpoint

Elusive waiters bear curious banquets

To impatient stomachs 

and the ravenous observation of the waiting line

I savour the gingered tonic of my soup bowl

Liquid reprieve from the crushing solidity of my life.
