Editor’s Notes

Dear Readers,

Bywords is celebrating National Poetry month in our April issue by featuring the work of five poets. You'll find five poems from five very active members of Ottawa's literary community from former directors of the Canadian Authors Association and the Tree Reading Series to students of English literature, from well-published poets to those who also serve on editorial boards of literary journals, these five are representative of just how involved our contributors are in the literary community.

Also in the issue is a review by selection committee member, Megan McGrath of a collaborative book of words sonnets by Seymour Mayne and Glenn Rochin.

For those of you who are in Ottawa or who might be in town, I hope you can come to the Bywords spring reading on April 27 at 2pm at Chapters, 47 Rideau. Our musical guest will be the amazing Marie-José Houle who sings and plays the accordion. We'll be launching the spring issue of volume 6 of the Bywords Quarterly Journal as we embark upon our sixth year of publication. As we did last year, we will also invite members of our selection committee to read. Reading on the 27th will be Sam Alwani, Amanda Earl, Peter Gibbon, Joe Hickey, Marcus McCann, Kenneth McGrath, Pearl Pirie, Janice Tokar, Victoria Vernell, and Catriona Wright.

Thanks to our selection committee this month:

Andrew Faulkner, Megan McGrath, Kemisha Newman, Pearl Pirie, and Victoria Vernell.

If you have comments, criticism, kudos or spring tulips, feel free to e-mail me at editor@bywords.ca. Looking forward to seeing you at an upcoming reading.

For those of you who aren't in Ottawa, remember you can pick up a subscription to the Bywords Quarterly Journal by going to Quarterly Journal and downloading a form or paying thru Paypal.

Thanks for reading!
